Let's not focus just economic growth. Let's check the whole big picture. Africa has now superb demographic growth which will force the rest of the world to adapt Afrocentric worldview instead of Eurocentric. People have not realized what birth rate Europe versus Sub Saharan Africa, about 1:5 really means. It means than in late 21st century there will be atleast 10 or even 20 times more new born Sub Saharan Africans than Europeans. It would mean that Europe will be repopulated with Sub Saharan Africans. Just like 40 000 - 50 000 years earlier.

I seriously hate how Europeans treated Africa. Its all their fault and then they have the nerve to talk down Africa. The world would die without Africa yet the world oppress Africans.
-
Why do African Nations have so much debt? White Colonialism. They enslave, rape, and steal then get the nerve to assign debt to Africa to keep it poor.

"Textile factories in Africa will lure people from the rural areas, as they achieve industrialization and wealth"? Are you kidding me? That is the most asinine statement I have heard. Where have 'textile factories' EVER led ANY group of rural people in so called 'third-world; countries to "industrialization and wealth". Mexico? Pakistan? India? China? Thailand? Please. The only way these countries will rise is if they are allowed to get fair market value for their natural and human resources, stable leaders and governments, and strong manufacturing bases. Take Nigeria for example. They import EVERYTHING they consume. With that kind of trade imbalance, "industrialization and wealth" will NEVER be achieved, regardless of how many foreign 'textile factories' are established there. 'Textile factories' sounds like a synonym for inhumane 'sweat shops'.

haha very soon Europe will be no more woow thats scary to think

Nobody wants to invest in anything just out of the good of their heart. They do so to make a profit; so quit the patronisation. What we need is to end the world capitalistic, imperialist order. The Communist future is bright.

I am actually terrified to imagine what Western Capitalism would do with all the resources of Africa, and all the vegetation and animal species. Will western corporations care how many gorillas lose their habitat on the altar of infrastructural development? Amazonia has already been exploited to such an extent that it's visible from space! Is this what waits there for Africa? I don't think African politicians won't be bought with money and then: it'll be just another colony of the corporations to dump their waste, exploit young children in electronics-factories, and use the land to grow endless fields of sunflower and corn... Then the last (somewhat) untouched continent will be globalized, and the fate of Humanity sealed.

Imagine what would happen if all the African countries, Jamaica, and other countries that aren't going too great all formed together into a modern communist superpower? That would be interesting.

I don't like his comment about 1800 years of nothing in Africa and India. There were many successful empires throughout Africa and the Indian region that played significant roles on the global stage. Remember it was only Europe that was plunged in 1500 years of darkness until the Renaissance period. Ironically, it was the Moor empire from Mali that brought them out of the dark ages

After everyone ran off from Africa, we can now say Come Back to Africa...
-
Nigeria gdp rebased is now the 24th largest economy. future super power.
-
This is all bullshit...statistics are bullshit...When Africa rises, the rest of us will be living on a different planet...The ruling class will keep robing that continent of its natural resources, only legalize it more...
-
oh gosh. did he really just say that richer countries are not corrupted...they are just as corrupted in much discrete ways.
-
Africa has real curroption most of the major companys have stolen land and nothing can be done
-
Who is going to cancel Europe's and North America's debt? Too bad...
-
Growth is entirely based on debt and opening up your economy to fraudulent banking practices designed to funnel money upwards and leave people feeling rich while being in debt. Less happiness, more stuff.
-
Does this mean we can stop sending them aid soon?
-
Very true - unfortunately, the differences between the various countries will create some difficulties in establishing reliable road systems, consistent trade standards, etc. Just a little bit more work to do in overcoming obstacles.

There are different nations and different strcutures, SA have the same structure of USA (companies have huge influences), Nigeria is a corruptocracy (wins the more corrupt), Ghana and Kenya are democracies while Rwanda a "good dictatorship" Singapore-style, Zambia/Namibia and Botswana are democracies etc etc Africa is not like EU (the same structure and almost the same people througout the continent), Africa is like Asia, every nation is completely different and the same is for the people.
The past decade has seen slow and steady economic growth across the continent of Africa. But economist Charles Robertson has a bold thesis: Africa's about to boom. He talks through a few of the indicators -- from rising education levels to expanded global investment (and not just from China) -- that lead him to predict rapid growth for a billion people, sooner than you may think.
