Soon as i heard him talking about im like ok, soon as i heard him say millions of years, im like hmm maybe hes just not sure, soon as he said natural selection i said ok whats going on here, soon as i heard him say evolution i gave up. even scientists admit they dont believe in evolution but dont say anything for fear of loosing there job. what we have here is a sellout. but then again this is ted talks if you arent a sellout your not on there programs

I don't believe in religion. Evolution is Dr. Dennet's religion. Evolution cannot prove the billions of years as a fact. Full of lies and cover-ups (eg ET and NASA-style going to the moon cover up). Science is based on PROVEN FACTS (eg is big bang's billions of years proven facts? It's a theory, yes but not fact. Is the core of the earth a fact? No. It's a theory. Why teach in school to be a fact when its still, not a proven fact? Science is based on facts, not theories SYNTHESIZED as a FACT i.e. Evolution. Hence, in the absence of proven facts, that is taken as "faith" aka religion. An example of a proven fact is the archeological discovery of mammoths and giants and ancient pyrAMIDS AND TEMPLES which prove they practice electricity back then, or they have wireless electricity and flying machines (very advanced societies which we cannot replicate it until now) which disprove evolution theory that we evolve from ocean to tadpoles then "lucy" the missing link which is a missing link until now because Lucy theory is questionable (and of which you cannot insert giants on the chain hence the Smithsonian societies tried to bury the giants bone in the ocean). Evolution cannot simply accept the archeological facts of advanced renowned cities and civilization of the ancient times most of which were submerged in the ocean before our time. Evolution religion cannot accept the fact that there was a sudden worldwide flood catastrophe that destroyed those advanced civilizations. Because of that catastrophe survivors without any tools went back to stone age and writings in the caves.

I don't know why he ends on that point. It doesn't really follow from the rest of what he says, he doesn't really talk about good at all.

I was hoping for those responses.

look at scandinavia for how to do pedagogy, this isn't a contraversial suggestion

If religion wasn't man made there would be no evolution of it. There wouldn't be so many religions to choose from and christianity wouldn't have so many variations of it. Most are starting to see this now. It's just going to take a little longer with the countries where they're mental about religion. Places like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, America, Iran and Isreal might take a little longer but they'll get there in the end.

Smug, nasty, thuggish totalitarian POS.

good idea really. religions are a big part of what we are today as it is such a big part of our very recent history, heck still a big part of many current societies. so many things like laws, traditions and common etiquette we derive from a religious cultural inheritance plus it will help understand where other cultures views come from. it will also help the dialogue with everybody to identify and point out the stupidities that come along with religions as well and eventually progress everybody to real enlightenment of logic and reason.

Daniel . . Your proposal is a most democratic suggestion to solve the educational problem of religious hipocracy.

As a philosopher Daniel Dennett even looks the part :)

Why shouldn't a alien race recognize religion ?
They must have undergone some kind of evolution. So they had to have population control..
And religion is the perfect tool for a developing society .
So if they would see big gatherings of one of the same type of creature. And they would want to know what's happening there than religion would be high on the list.. -

Religious people are opposed to the teaching of religions other than their own in schools because it'll just show how grossly incorrect all of them are.

That was brilliant.

God loves to kill babies and pregnant women
Yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
-Hosea 9:16
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
-Hosea 13:16
Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
-Numbers 31:15-17
They completely destroyed everything in it – babies, men, women, young and old, cattle, sheep, donkeys – everything.
-Joshua 6:20-21
This is what you shall do: every male and every woman that has lain with a male you shall devote to destruction.”
-Judges 21:10-24
Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children.
-Isaiah 13:15-18
Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.
-Psalms 137:9 -
Rick Warren would be a lot more credible if he simply smeared his face with his own feces.

...and so it came to pass, that a happenstance prophet arose from the mechanical soup. His name is Dennett. Praised be the happenstance.
http://www.ted.com Philosopher Dan Dennett calls for religion -- all religion -- to be taught in schools, so we can understand its nature as a natural phenomenon. Then he takes on The Purpose-Driven Life, disputing its claim that, to be moral, one must deny evolution.
