The Huns are mentioned time and time again, from movies to magazines, so today we are going to be discussing, who the Huns are, and why they were so important, so let’s get right into the video. Let’s get down to business, today we are going to be discussing the Huns and their significance in history. Firstly, the Huns were a nomadic tribe whose origin is unknown, but historians believe that they originated in modern day Kazakhstan. They were first reported living east of the Volga River...in 91 AD, the Huns were said to be living near the Caspian Sea. In search for fodder, the Huns migrated westward, conquering as they went. As warriors the Huns inspired almost unparalleled fear throughout Europe. They were amazingly accurate mounted archers, and their complete command of horsemanship, their ferocious charges and unpredictable retreats, and the speed of their strategical movements brought them overwhelming victories. In the year, 432 AD the leadership of the various groups of Huns had been centralized under a single king, called Rua. When Rua died in 434 AD he was succeeded by his two nephews, Bleda and Attila. The joint rulers negotiated a peace treaty at Margus, with the Eastern Roman Empire. The peace treaty stated that the Romans would have to pay the huns money every year in order to keep the peace. However, the romans stopped paying after the first year, and in 441 Attila launched a heavy assault on the Roman Danubian frontier, advancing almost to Constantinople. For the fall of Rome, it was the Huns invading from the east that caused the domino effect, they invaded the Goths, who then invaded the Roman Empire. Attila and his Huns maintained their power and fear over Europe because they introduced one of the greatest war strategies. This was the ability to shoot arrows while riding horseback. This advancement allowed the Huns to be more difficult targets and attack quicker and more precisely. After the Huns, others followed in their footsteps and military technology changed. Bleda died in 445 AD, some historians suspect that Attila killed him. In the year 447 AD, Attila made his second great attack on the Eastern Roman Empire. He devastated the Balkans and drove south into Greece as far as Thermopylae In 451 Attila invaded Gaul but was defeated by the Romans and the Visigoths. This was his first and only defeat in battle. They invaded Italy in 452 but it was ridden with pestilence and famine and that persuaded them to leave. In 453, it is said that Attila died. After Attila’s death, his sons Ellac, Dengizich and Ernak fought over the throne. Ellac won the throne but the Huns were defeated in the battle of Nedao in 454. After battle ended the Europeans took over the Huns, and they started to disappear from the contemporary records. The Huns were very important to ancient history because of their military advancements, vast conquered land, and the Huns being a contributor to the fall of the Roman Empire. We had a ton of fun making this video. I hope you all now have a better understanding of who the Huns were, and why they were so important. Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate! Peace!
