If I could live forever, I'd be the happiest person on the world
-
Well, I tried but I found no solace here. I still don't want to die.
-
I agree. Our life is a book. But who is reading?
-
Ugh. For real? So this guy has no biases about there being nothing after death?
I believe in heaven and Jesus NOT because I am scared to die. I believe in them because scripture tells me about them (and I believe in Scripture and that a God does exist). If it so happens that I just die and there is no heaven? Well, why would I be scared of that? Maybe the far scarier thing is to believe that an actual God does exist and I am responsible to Him. -
Working against decay (and the associated pain) is not necessarily a sign of fear its a sign of sanity. Humanity has already beaten death at least once since on average we get at least twice as old as a hundred years ago. Lets not call the people seriously working on shoving death back a bit wannabe "omnipotent researchers" offering a salvation alternative to religion (that is not what they do) but instead thank them for their attempts to make our good story a little bit very longer.
Also dying is not an all or nothing thing. Loosing memories irreversibly/irrecoverably/terminally is what dying ultimately is all about and that process can happen slowly and incrementally. Beside the obvious examples alzheimer and permanent (not temporary) amnesia there is also the healthy(!) process of forgetting things to keep your memory cleaned up and tidy which is a form of dying. So you not only can experience your own death in life but you are actually experiencing it nonstop and all the time.
Stretching the term dying even further into digital terms one can see dying as the deletion of data. From this viewpoint anything carrying a unique one of a kind structure can die. One even often says: "my hard-disk died", "that web-link is dead" or going to objects "the earth dies". It's loss of valuable diversity - loss of axiomatic wisdom. -
how about we come with a cure to tons of diseases that we can't cure today, then think about immortality ,i believe in god and in science.
-
here's how to deal with death: off the top of your head, what is your great, great, great grandfather's first name? You don't know. Nobody cares that he is dead. Nobody misses him or is sad that he is dead. Those that did, are dead too...
Likewise, your great, great, great grandchildren won't even remember your name, let alone your feelings, hopes dreams etc...Death is perfectly natural, and no more important or unusual than knocking over a jug of milk. -
well you see the thing is magical elixirs is part of folklore.
science is not. studies in medicine has extended human lifespan. we have ways to purify foods and prevent disease, treat illnesses (including non-pathogenic illnesses like diabetes), and keep the elderly alive and healthy through vitamins and technologies like prosthetics.
sure maybe the idea of uploading our brains (or consciousness) to a computer is sci-fi right now but thats just it. its still science. we dont have an explanation on how to do it and maybe its not the right way. but in our journey of bridging the gap between sci fi and reality we will discover an answer.
and i hope im alive or a part of this discovery -
I think I just fell in love with him

Actually, what kind of story your life was doesn't really matter when there is no "you". Anything doesn't matter, so the conclusion doesn't work. And yes, people believe in different forms of immortality despite having no evidence in it not only because they are biased, but also because there is no actual evidence proving anything on the subject. What we know is that everyone will die at some point and that we cannot reach anyone who is beyond the veil. This and nothing more. We don't really understand why we have consciousness and even what it is. It can be side effect of brain activity, but remember that correlation is not causation and it can basically be the other way around. Like when your TV "dies" it doesn't necessarily indicate that the TV station you were watching is gone, only that you can no longer watch it.

I always knew i was gonna die at some point but i literally only really thought about it today

Hmm, he didn't mensioned the 2 other stories : reïncarnation and oblivian. In his talk he kind of assumed that the stories we tell ourself are wrong. I think he had good arguments for his critics on the elexir and ressurection but his critics in the soul were weak at my opinion. Legacy isn't even a story. Achilles was a fool. If death would mean that you're really gone, why would you care about how other people remember you ?
-
My biggest fear is not existing. I hope that's not what happens after death.
-
you are the only one who understand me every thing you said is right and hope that the people will understand it before they die. thank you for every thing you have said❤❤

[I don't know how he can give this talk without crediting Ernest Becker?] Anyway, He quoted Woody Allen, who also said; ‘I'm not afraid of death; I just don't want to be there when it happens. fyi ’Fear of Death is similar to arthritis. Fear of Danger is a good thing, just like attacking disease is a good thing. Fear of Danger, animals have too. With us, it jumped circuits into Fear of Death, just like arthritis crosses over into attacking healthy tissue. fyi There is a very, simple, explanation for why were 'gifted' with Fear of Death. In the same way there would be no life on Earth without lightning [forest fires, fire-weed, bees, ya da ya da], Fear of Death is just a signal to bring about the creation of Battling Immortality Delusions. From that we got very efficient Population Control Mechanisms, Nations, Religions, Classes. Like, in the way, introducing wolves back into Yellowstone created more beaver ponds, Fear of Death created Killing Machines that kept us from wading knee deep in our own excrement. [oh,, if we Add up how many have been killed by religions, nations and class poverty, don't forget to ADD the potential offspring. Without Immortality Delusions acting as Population Control Mechanisms what would the population have reached by now? 30 billion? 80 billion?

It's so heart breaking these people who believe they are mortal. But this guy systematically rejects Christ because he and others believe it has something to do with "us" being scared of death.
No one dies. You have the body, a vessel for the spirit. The body dies, but you, you remain. I realize that you people are stuck. Your stuck with wanting proof, and unable to hear the Word of God, you retract to unbelief. It's sad, very sad. But Christ has saw to it that no one will stand on the day of judgement and claim ignorance before Him. It just wont happen. Everyone knows deep down something else exists. God has placed that idea of eternity in the heart of man.
Dont you see? Dont you hear? Why can't you understand that the very fact that you "think" of it means it's so. Why does science try to find a way around death. They think of everything, except the one thing that will save them, Jesus Christ. I'll tell you why. Because men do not want to be obedient to God, and they want their sin, rather than God. And if that's what you want, you'll have it.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set
the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God
maketh from the beginning to the end."
No excuse of ignorance will be accepted. You wont claim never being told of God, or of Christ and be welcomed into to heaven. Everyone has heard. And you either reject Christ, or accept Him. -
Five Grams of Dried Magic MUshrooms consumed daily will help you to never fear death again.

Birth is the destroyer of Death.
Philosopher Stephen Cave begins with a dark but compelling question: When did you first realize you were going to die? And even more interestingly: Why do we humans so often resist the inevitability of death? In a fascinating talk Cave explores four narratives -- common across civilizations -- that we tell ourselves "in order to help us manage the terror of death."
