I'm confused! What if growth rate of a population of 100 individuals was 70% per year? Then doubling time would be 1 year (70/70)? But the population actually just increased 70%, so they should be 170 individuals instead of 200 by the end of the year! Can anyone explain please?

If just one bacterium were allowed to double just a few months it's mass would be the size of our planet. I think God allowed for that! Take my advice n stop watching these doom n gloom vids right now or you'l have your house loaded with beans n rice before you know it. They now believe oil replaces itself as fast as they suck it out. Run out and buy the biggest SUV you can find and fu*k it!

If I was to ask a classroom, what is like to live in an exponential curve? I wonder if the response would be, "much like right now, and not in any time before". We are in a time of change that is out of our historical, cultural, and psychological experience. I see at least three of these exponential curves (and there are more likely attendant with those three) but they are: human population growth, fossil fuel use, and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

5 million views for an old codger giving a lecture about arithmetic?? What's going on? You'll just have to watch to see what's so damn amazing about what he (Albert Bartlett) has to say. I introduce this video to my students as "Perhaps the most boring video you'll ever see, and definitely the most important." But then again, after watching it most said that if you followed along with what the presenter (a professor emeritus of Physics at Univ of Colorado-Boulder) is saying, it's quite easy to pay attention, because it is so damn compelling. Entire playlist for the lecture: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6A1FD147A45EF50D
